Verkatehdas: wellbeing at work from low to high season

Hämeenlinna's Verkatehdas is an event venue for exciting business events, interesting productions, and rewarding seminars. The Verkatehdas team makes events happen, but their own wellbeing at work is affected by the seasonal nature of the work: the rhythm of work fluctuates from low to high season.

Every year, Verkatehdas’ staff are responsible for organising hundreds of events, but as Christmas approaches, the pace picks up and staff energy levels are challenged. Together with Verkatehdas management, Wellbeing Superstars by Liikkuva Suomi built a coaching package focusing on rest and recovery to help staff identify and better manage stress.

Verkatehdas’ CFO Arto Helkiö participated in the coaching with the rest of the team: “We want to support our employees' wellbeing, and find ways to take care of our own and each other's wellbeing and fitness at work. We started the coaching in September 2022, and have been working with Wellbeing Superstars towards the busiest time of the year, the high season.”

The coaching led by Wellbeing Superstars’ Tiina Ven, has focused on recovery. “In the event industry, high season always comes at the same time of year. When the workload starts to accumulate, it’s important to be able to identify where your limits are, and create the right framework for recovery,” Tiina explains.

Verkatehdas team members have been equipped with Firstbeat smart devices which have made it easy to monitor their own body's response to load and recovery. “During busy periods, we often get stuck in a coping mode and overload easily,” says Tiina. “With Firstbeat's data, we can track how our body reacts and understand more easily what it’s telling us. The data also helps us understand how our individual recovery is working.”

Arto Helkiö gives the coaching a solid 9/10 midway through the season: “Our team has found the coaching great, and Tiina is a competent and professional coach, so we look forward to continuing with the same formula for the rest of the season!”
